With doctoral degrees in Sociology and Psychology, she provides counseling, mentorship, and support for gender diverse and transgender individuals and their families, as well as professional development educational programs and clinical support for the medical and behavioral healthcare professionals delivering gender affirming care to these individuals.

Supplementing her formal academic training, Dr. Sorrentino has been studying, researching, and delivering professional development education on gender diversity — in addition to working with the LGBTQ+ community and their healthcare providers — for more than 35 years. This combination of formal academic education, coupled with her years of experience, research, and the training she provides, has positioned her as a subject matter expert in the field. Her direct work encompasses: more than 1,000 gender diverse and transgender individuals (adolescents and adults); more than 400 parents of gender diverse and transgender adolescents; and more than 200 couples navigating gender affirmation disclosure.

Beyond her direct work with individuals, Dr. Sorrentino designs, develops, and delivers gender diverse, transgender, and LGBTQ+ professional educational development programs for medical and behavioral healthcare professionals through seminars, workshops, in-service training, and her series of educational podcasts. These programs have been presented locally and nationally at conferences and symposia for healthcare professionals, as well as for human resource, business, and professional organizations.
